Five suspected armed robbers have been killed by policemen in Ugba, headquarters of Logo Local Government area in Benue state
The suspected armed robbers have for the past five months held residents of Ugba and entire Sankera hostage over their criminal activities which included Kidnappings, Banditry, theft and armed robbery.
It was learnt exclusively from a resident in Ugba town that the gang at a point in time threatened the Divisional Police Officer ( DPO) in a telephone conversation.
In the telephone threat, the gang leader warned the DPO to leave Ugba town or he would be killed.
He asked the DPO to seek transfer to another area because he was after his gang members.
It was gathered that the 5 man gang met their Waterloo on Friday night when they robbed residents from one house to another at about 3am.
However, one of the victims alerted the police while the operation was going on, they responded swiftly and engaged the robbers in a gun duel.
Five (5) of them were shot dead while two policemen sustained injuries.
When contacted, the Police in Ugba spoke on condition anonymity and confirmed the incident but referred our Correspondent to Benue state Police command headquarters in Makurdi.
However, there was jubilations in Ugba town as residents trooped out to catch a glimpse of the bodies of the suspected robbers as displayed at the Divisional Police Headquarters office in Ugba town.
