Abdullahi Kobi, media officer of Nigeria Professional Football League side, Wikki Tourists, says the club will request to have their week 11 fixture against Dakkada FC rescheduled following their near-death experience on Thursday.

Team bus of the Bauchi-based club caught fire along Kibo Road in Plateau State, on their way to Uyo to for Sunday’s league tie against Dakkada.

Kobi said there were no casualties, but added that the players won’t be able to feature in their next league game, having been traumatised by the incident.

He said, “All the players got out safely, nothing happened to them and there was no injury of any sort. Only the bus got burnt.

“The rear tyre of the bus pulled off and while the driver was trying to control the vehicle, another tyre pulled off, which caused sparks on the wheel that eventually caught fire because of the closeness of the fuel tank. That was what ignited the fire.

“We didn’t know how it stopped, but it was a miracle that we all got out alive and safe.”
