A Voepass Linhas Aéreas flight carrying 62 individuals is feared to have crashed near São Paulo, Brazil, with no survivors expected.
The aircraft, which was carrying 58 passengers and four crew members, reportedly descended rapidly and spiraled downward before impacting the ground.
Footage broadcast on Brazilian television shows the crash site engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing from what is believed to be the plane’s fuselage. Additional video aired on GloboNews captured the moment the plane plunged from the sky.
During a public event, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva acknowledged the tragedy, calling for a moment of silence. He expressed deep sorrow, indicating that it appeared all on board had perished.
The local fire department confirmed the aircraft crashed near Vinhedo, but the cause of the crash remains unknown. Voepass Linhas Aéreas has yet to confirm the number of fatalities but acknowledged the presence of 62 people on board.
In an official statement, the airline said, “The aircraft took off from Cascavel-PR bound for Guarulhos Airport, with 58 passengers and four crew members on board. VOEPASS has taken all measures to support those involved.
“There is still no confirmation of how the accident occurred or the current situation of the people on board. The Company is providing support via telephone at 0800 9419712, available 24 hours a day, providing information to all its passengers, family members and employees.”
