South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has unveiled measures to simplify visa processes for Nigerian travelers, including the issuance of five-year multiple-entry visas for eligible entrepreneurs.
The initiative aims to enhance bilateral business relations and boost tourism between the two nations.
The announcement was made during the 11th Nigeria-South Africa Bi-National Commission meeting in Cape Town, attended by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.
According to Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Tinubu, the initiative underscores South Africa’s commitment to strengthening ties with Nigeria.
“Qualifying Nigerian entrepreneurs will be eligible for five-year multiple-entry visas,” Ramaphosa stated, stressing efforts to foster a more favorable business environment.
He further pledged to address barriers to investment and tackle challenges faced by businesses operating between the two nations.
Marking 30 years of diplomatic relations, Ramaphosa lauded the strong foundation of friendship between the two countries, emphasizing the extensive presence of South African businesses in Nigeria and South Africa’s receptiveness to Nigerian investments. Despite this, he acknowledged the need for additional efforts to resolve existing obstacles to investment and improve business operations.
Ramaphosa also praised Nigeria’s economic reforms aimed at attracting foreign investment, including participation from South African businesses. “We aim to ensure investors can operate, trade, and explore opportunities across various sectors. We welcome more Nigerian companies to invest in South Africa,” he said.
