The countdown for the highly-anticipated sequel of Coming 2 America is set to be released on March 5th.

The trailer shows Prince Akeem portrayed by Eddie Murphy, going to New York City to meet the son he never met. Akeem’s son resisted but he was hilariously persuaded to head to Zamunda to claim his position as the heir.

Eddie Murphy in an interview said, “This is the perfect time to return to Zamunda because it’s been a while since we’ve had a great comedy that everybody can enjoy. Zamunda is a very funny place, and the world needs that right now.”

Murphy also revealed that he’s been excited about reuniting with the cast and “making a movie that’s as good as the first one,” he said in a statement. “Getting everybody together, including Arsenio Hall, Shari Headley, John Amos, James Earl Jones and the rest of my royal family, and making a really great movie, that’s my favorite part.”

The highly anticipated sequel to the 1988 classic will premiere exclusively on Amazon Prime Video the same day the soundtrack will be available via Amazon Music, Spotify, Apple Music, and all streaming platforms.

Up first from the soundtrack: rapper Bobby Sessions and Megan Thee Stallion will release their new original collaboration “I’m a King” on Friday. A snippet of the song can be heard in the new trailer released Wednesday in the 1:00 minute marker in the trailer. This isn’t the first time the duo has teamed up: Sessions was a co-writer on Meg’s hit “Savage.”

“From watching Coming to America as a kid in Pleasant Grove to being apart of the #Coming2America trailer!! Manifestation is REAL,” Sessions wrote in a tweet.

The original Coming to America soundtrack boasted songs by The Cover Girls, Chico DeBarge, Mel & Kim, Sister Sledge and many more. The System’s title track, “Coming to America,” co-written by Nile Rodgers.

James Earl Jones (King Jaffe Joffer), Shari Headley (Queen Lisa), John Amos (Cleo McDowell), and Louie Anderson (Maurice) make a repeat performance their roles in the 2021 film for Murphy and Hall’s all-new adventure from the make-believe African nation of Zamuda to the Queens, New York. Teyana Taylor, Leslie Jones, Tracy Morgan, Wesley Snipes, and more join the cast this time around.
