Operatives of the Lagos Police Command have arrested two men who allegedly kidnapped an eight-year-old boy in Lagos last month.
The victim, Daniel Chukwudi, was abducted on July 11 from his parents’ residence at Aboru in Ipaja by their neighbour, Desmond Okoroafor, 21, and his accomplice Gift Egwuonwu, 34.
According to the police, Okoroafor took advantage of his unhindered access to the child’s family to lure the boy from Ipaja to Ajangbadi in Ojo, where he was held hostage for six days before he was rescued by operatives.
A statement on Saturday morning by the spokesman, CSP Adekunle Ajisebutu, said the suspects contacted the boy’s parents and demanded N2.5m ransom a day after he was kidnapped.
He said they threatened to kill the boy unless his parents paid the ransom demanded.
“Following report by the distraught parents, operatives of the State Intelligence Bureau began a painstaking, diligent investigation which led to the arrest of the two suspects in their criminal hideout while the victim was also rescued from his detention where he was kept incommunicado.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, has directed that the suspects be charged to court, vowing that kidnappers and other criminal elements would not be allowed to operate in the state,” said Ajisebutu.
