The wave of defections hitting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has deepened with the resignation of its Financial Secretary, Nasiru Yahaya Isa (Wamban Isa), a move seen as further evidence of the party’s shrinking influence ahead of the next election cycle.

Isa, a former Permanent Secretary in the state tendered his resignation on August 11, 2025, stepping down from both his position and party membership.

His decision, insiders say, is part of a broader political recalibration that has seen several PDP stalwarts gravitate toward other platforms, particularly the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

While Isa cited “persistent crises, lack of internal democracy, and deepening factionalism” as his official reasons, political observers note that the PDP in Sokoto has been struggling to hold its ranks together amid leadership disputes and dwindling grassroots confidence.

“The trust and unity that once defined our party have been eroded by prolonged leadership wrangling and the steady departure of respected members,” Isa said in his letter to the state chairman.

He added that he now seeks “a political environment more aligned with my values and vision for meaningful engagement.”

Isa’s exit underscores the uncertainty within the Sokoto PDP as it battles not only internal rifts but also the mounting pressure of a resurgent opposition. With each high-profile resignation, the party’s capacity to mount a united front in the coming polls appears increasingly in question.
