The Oyo State government has initiated the electronic payment of gratuities to retirees, aiming to enhance the security and efficiency of the payment process.
This development was announced by the Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Hon. Olusegun Olayiwola, during a three-day data capturing and e-payment exercise held at the Nigeria Union of Pensioners’ Building in Ibadan.
The exercise targets retirees from two specific periods: June 2014 to December 2014 and June 2019 to December 2019, with plans to extend the initiative to all eligible retirees.
Olayiwola emphasized the state’s commitment to maintaining a positive relationship with the Oyo State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) and other stakeholders to ensure the well-being of retirees.
Dr. Olusegun Abatan, the state secretary of the NUP, highlighted the benefits of the e-payment system, noting its ability to improve the security, accuracy, and speed of gratuity payments. He praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his consistent efforts in ensuring the prompt disbursement of retirees’ funds since taking office in 2019.
In his remarks, Permanent Secretary Mr. Olajide Okesade expressed gratitude to the state government for its continued support of retirees and civil servants.
He noted that the e-payment system would not only speed up access to funds but also eliminate risks associated with physical payment methods, such as theft or loss
