The Kano State Hisbah Board has officially prohibited all forms of sports betting within the state.
During a recent press conference, Deputy Commander-General Dr. Mujaheed Aminuddeen announced the board’s renewed commitment to combating immorality, stating that the initiative, dubbed ‘Operation Flush Out Immorality,’ aims to uphold social order.
He emphasized that operatives will be actively monitoring and addressing violations by individuals and groups in the community.
He said in its efforts to restore sanity and discipline in the state, the Hisbah would arrest any landlord who rented out an apartment to unknown person(s) in view of the increasing cases of residential houses being used as lodges and motels in the city.
He stated that the board had further issued new rules regarding courtship, as henceforth, no prospective couples would be allowed to sit in tinted vehicles during courtship particularly in the night.
He pointed out that while the law prohibits street begging, female beggars who stayed outdoors late into the night would also be arrested.
Dr Mujaheed also announced that the Hisbah is disturbed by the increasing rate of prostitution among young girls and therefore warned that any woman seen in a tricycle after 10pm would also be apprehended.
He warned the public against violating any of the rules, which he said would attract stiff penalty.
He called on parents to be vigilant on their children, especially the females, and stop them from any misconduct capable of breaking any of the rules as stipulated across the state.
In June, the board banned male Disc Jockeys (DJs) from officiating at female-dominated events across the state.
The board said the decision became necessary in order to prohibit mixing of males and females during events and explained that women would be allowed henceforth to officiate at women’s gatherings.
“As an Islamic state, it is unacceptable for us to allow the indiscriminate mixing of males and females at the same event. This is because this act can promote and spread immorality,” Hisbah said.
