The Katsina Emirate Council has suspended the Sarkin Pauwan Katsina, who is also the district head of Kankara, Yusuf Lawal, over alleged involvement in aiding and abating banditry activities in his domain.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Sallaman Katsina who is the Secretary to the emirate council, Mamman Ifo, on behalf of the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumin Usman.
The statement dated April 30, 2021, did not reveal his real offence but instead added that the suspension was with immediate effect.
The spokesman for the Katsina Emirate Council, Iro Bindawa, who also confirmed the development said the suspended district head was under investigation.
Bindawa said, ” Yes, the district head has been suspended and he is currently under investigation. The outcome of the investigation will determine the next line of action to be taken by the Emirate.”
It was also learnt that the district head was suspended following complaints from security agencies and some residents of the district about his activities.
It would be recalled that bandits had last December, abducted 344 pupils of Government Science Secondary School, Kankara.
The pupils were rescued after six days in the bandits’ captivity while the state government has since then evolved strategies to safeguard residents of the state.
The bandits nonetheless, still carry out attacks in the area although not at the tempo they used to.
