Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Bola Tinubu, has announced his resignation from the role, effective immediately.
In a memo addressed to the Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Ngelale disclosed his intention to take an indefinite leave of absence.
Alongside his resignation as the President’s spokesperson, Ngelale has also stepped down from his duties as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action and Chairman of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen.
Ngelale cited pressing medical concerns affecting his immediate and nuclear family as the reason for his decision.
The statement read: “On Friday, I submitted a memo to the Chief of Staff to the President informing my office that I am proceeding on an indefinite leave of absence to frontally deal with medical matters presently affecting my immediate nuclear family.”
Ngelale acknowledged the difficulty of stepping away from his responsibilities during this critical time but emphasized that the decision was made after considerable consultation with his family.
He expressed hope of returning to national service when the situation allows and asked for privacy for himself and his family during this period.
The move comes after what Ngelale described as an “agonizing decision” and a worsening family medical situation. While his departure leaves a gap in Tinubu’s media team, Ngelale expressed optimism about resuming his duties when healing and time permit.
