In a grand ceremony held at the iconic Mapo Hall in Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State formally presented the staff and instruments of office to Oba Akinloye Owolabi Olakulehin, the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadan.
The event took place on Friday at 2:45 pm, marking a significant moment in the history of Ibadanland.
Governor Makinde, in his address, highlighted the importance of the occasion despite attempts to undermine it.
“They said they want to sabotage, but we are here today at Mapo Hall. I, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State by the virtue of power conferred on me, hereby present the staff of office to the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland. Let us say Kabiesi!” he declared to the gathered crowd.
The atmosphere at Mapo Hall was electric, filled with vibrant colors, rhythmic drum beats, and the sounds of celebratory gunfire.
The event featured a palatial stage and elaborate decorations, reflecting the cultural heritage and grandeur of the occasion.
Attendees, including onlookers, vendors, and dignitaries, contributed to the festive mood, with security personnel ensuring a safe environment.
The day’s events began with the official opening of the ultramodern Olubadan Palace at Oke Aremo, Ibadan, setting the tone for the coronation festivities. Despite initial concerns about the weather, which was cloudy, the skies eventually cleared, allowing the sun to shine on the proceedings.
Notable figures in attendance included Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Deputy Governor Dr. Olayide Adelami representing Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and Oyo State Deputy Governor Bayo Lawal. Traditional rulers such as the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Adeyeye Ogunwusi; the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar; and the Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, Alhaji Dawud Makanjuola, graced the event with their presence.
The coronation was a celebration of tradition and unity, bringing together community leaders, prominent indigenes, and top government officials to honor the new Olubadan and reaffirm the rich cultural legacy of Ibadanland.
