The Nigerian government has officially announced that Tuesday, October 1, 2024, will be a public holiday in celebration of the nation’s 64th Independence Day anniversary.
In a statement released on Saturday, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, confirmed that the declaration was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo.
Congratulating Nigerians at home and abroad, Dr. Tunji-Ojo commended the dedication and resilience of the nation’s citizens, emphasizing that their sacrifices will not be in vain.
He encouraged all Nigerians to reflect on the contributions of past heroes, urging unity in the pursuit of a brighter future for the country. The Minister reiterated that a united Nigeria is essential for realizing the nation of our dreams.
“Aligning himself with the theme for the Anniversary, the Minister reiterated the need for Nigerians to reflect on the labour of our heroes past and be inspired for the tasks ahead, realizing that a Nigeria of our dream can only be built when we unite.
“While wishing Nigerians a Happy Independence Day Anniversary, Dr. Tunji-Ojo urged the citizens to continue to be steadfast in nation-building”, the statement added.
The 64th Independence Day celebration stated to be low-key started with a ministerial briefing on Thursday. On Friday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu alongside other Muslim faithful held a special Jumat prayer at the National Central Mosque Abuja.
