A tragic incident unfolded at Saint Academy in the Busa Buji community of Jos North Local Government Area, Plateau State, where a school building collapsed on students during their third-term promotional examination.
The collapse occurred around 11 am on Friday, July 12, 2024, affecting classrooms that housed over 100 students. Many individuals remain trapped beneath the debris.
Preliminary reports suggest that the collapse may have been caused by heavy rainfall from Wednesday to Thursday. Additionally, the school’s proximity to a river is believed to have contributed to the structural failure.
The disaster site is currently filled with distraught parents, loved ones, and well-wishers, anxiously awaiting news of their children.
Rescue operations are underway, with personnel from the police, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Red Cross, and local vigilantes actively involved in efforts to save those trapped.
Several injured students have been transported to Bingham University Teaching Hospital, also known as Jan Kwano, and OLA Hospital for urgent medical treatment, according to reports from Chronicle NG.
