Following an intensive inspection of the cotton-rich and coastal city of Garoua, German coach Gernot Rohr has affirmed that the capital of the north region of Cameroon will be ideal for the Super Eagles campaign at the forthcoming delayed 2021 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Super Eagles were handed a seemingly tough draw on Tuesday with record seven-time champions Egypt as well as Sudan and Guinea Bissau with their base in Garoua -the city reportedly established by the Fulani emir Modibbo Adama in the first half of the 19th century.

After the draw on Tuesday, Rohr was in Garoua on Wednesday on a fact-finding mission in his usual Teutonic style and devotion to details ahead of international tournaments and matches.

“We have good conditions in Garoua,” a seemingly elated Rohr told NationSport. “Hotel, very ok but we have to share (accommodation) with Sudan.”

Nigeria will open their 2021 account with a tough tie against Egypt on January 11 at the Roumdé Adjia Stadium in Garoua; and to be followed with games against Sudan on January 15 and Guinea Bissau on January 19 at the same venue.

Yet Rohr said both the main and training pitches at the 30,000 capacity stadium are very excellent playing conditions: “The stadium of Coton Sports (the Roumdé Adjia Stadium is the home ground of Cameroon’s famous club, Coton Sport FC de Garoua) very good pitch, the grass is top in training ground and stadium.”
